Shopping at Kuta Bali
Kuta is shopper's dream. This is partly because it's an important manufacturing center of summer wear, jewelry and decorative handicrafts and homewares which are exported all over the world. Most of the goods are designed by young expatriates from Europe, the USA and Japan. The best area for shopping is Jl. Legian, Jl. Bakungsari, Jl. Melasti and nearby back lanes such as Poppies I and II. Some bargains, though, can still be struck as far away as Seminyak and Kerobokan. Before buying, check wares carefully because goods are not returnable. Beware also of "antiques", as most are actually fakes.

Kuta has also several department stores. The best for one-stop-shopping are the Matahari stores with their huge selections of goods at low prices, and often with ladies, gents and kids clothing departments.
Dinning at Kuta Bali
Kuta and Legian, as well as the coastal communities to the north, have become a culinary paradise. New places open almost daily and competition is fierce. Most don't last for long. The ones which do have great food at unbeatable prices. Seafood and Asian dishes are your best bets. Or try Mexican, Indian, Japanese, Brazilian or Moroccan. The more well-known places are mentioned below, plus some promising newcomers. Ask around for the latest “in” spots. Look for discount coupons in tourist literature. Over the last several years, Jl. Dhyanapura has become the party street where as Jl. Laksamana (also called Jl. Oberoi) has become Bali's trendy restaurant strip, or “eat street”, currently hosting a mind-boggling total of over 45 different dinning venues. “Halal” on menu means it is food acceptable to Muslims.
Night Life at Kuta Bali
Bali's nightlife is legendary and these days there are two very different 'scenes', the young boisterous crowd that dominates the Kuta circuit and a cooler, slightly older expat Euro and Jakartan crowd that frequents the beach cafes and chic restaurants of northern Legian and southern Seminyak. There's no dress code. Get down in board shorts, singlets, thongs or get all gussied up. When the sun begins to set, the whole southern Bali coastal strip from Tuban to Canggu comes to life. The Legian and Seminyak crowd tend to start the ball rolling with sundowners on the beach at Jl. Double Six, followed by dinner and further frivolity at a nightspot on lively Jl. Dhyanapura. Much of the Legian action happens in and around Jalan Dhyanapura, Bali's party street. With its scores of cocktail bars and cafes, it's the busiest street in Seminyak and attracts droves of people, filling every establishment to the maximum until around 2:30am when they starting emptying and people start heading to a few places still kicking (Double Six and Taj Mahal).
